Obituary: Mabel Donovan Hickey, of Monroe
Mabel worked for the town of Monroe as the first Municipal Agent for the Aging and the first director of the Senior Center.

MONROE, CT — Mabel Donovan Hickey, age 97, daughter of Mary and Jeremiah Donovan and widow of Charles C. Hickey, Jr. entered into eternal rest on October 19, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Mabel is survived by her children, Ray Hickey and his wife Elizabeth, JoAnn Ahern and her husband Brian, Peg DeSanty and her husband Greg, Charles C. Hickey, III and his wife Kathleen and John Hickey and his wife Stephanie. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Mary Ellen Flom, three brothers, three sisters and her parents.

Mabel was born in Somerville, MA before moving with her husband to Bridgeport in 1945 where she resided for 26 years. She later lived in Monroe before retiring to New Hampshire. Mabel worked as a bookkeeper. She also worked for the town of Monroe as the first Municipal Agent for the Aging and the first director of the Senior Center. She used her talents as a choir member of several churches and for many years as a church organist. She was also an amateur artist. Her greatest joy was her role of wife to her husband and mother to her six children, her 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Tpke., Monroe. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
