Occupation: Town Clerk

Family: Jonathan Stone, husband and current chairman of Monroe Parks & Recreation Commission; three grown children who attended Monroe Public Schools K-12; 7 grandchildren all living locally in Connecticut

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? Yes, my husband Jon has served on the Economic Development Commission and is currently the chairman of Monroe Parks & Recreation Commission.

Previous public office, appointive or elective: I was appointed as the Assistant to the First Selectman in 2004 followed by being appointed as Town Clerk in 2015. I have been in elected office to present 2025 and am running as an incumbent for the 2025 Municipal Election. I have held office for 10 years as Town Clerk.

Why are you seeking this office? I have lived in the town of Monroe since 1984 and have served in different capacities throughout including community service as well as appointed offices. I enjoy giving back to the community. The position of Town Clerk has always intrigued me. My mentor was Thelma K. Inderdohnen who has recently passed away. Serving the town of Monroe in the capacity of Town Clerk has been one of my greatest accomplishments.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is the tax increase they face due to the State-mandated Property Revaluation that recently took place. Although the value of the personal property increased significantly, so did the property tax. The only way to offset this is to continue to be fiscally responsible. The budget process is set forth by our town charter. Town departments continue to put forth the most responsible proposed budget for officials to consider.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? I am fortunate to have run unopposed for the position of Town Clerk. I have never taken that for granted. I believe the town has faith in my experience and bi-partisanship.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? I continue to remain bi-partisan. Also, historic preservation is key to the future of Monroe. Town Clerk's are the keeper of the records. I continually take steps to preserve including applying for available grants to offset the burden of the taxpayers.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you? As I mentioned early, my mentor Thelma "Kay" Inderdohnen always instilled in me the value of what is my responsibility as keeper of the records. To go back and time cannot be possible if historic preservation is not put into place.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions? I love my town and the people and places in it. I take great pride in knowing that my constituents trust that I am doing the best job possible. I can never thank them enough for entrusting me as their Town Clerk.
