Picture This! Seeing Nature Through a Different Lens

Photography in Nature for students PreK-5th grade

Preschool aged students through 5th grade are being offered an opportunity to enjoy and learn about nature through a different lens-photography! This August students can spend 90 minutes with professional photographer – Alyssa Janco, Discovery Zone teacher and Assistant Director of Summer Programs. A photo of Ms. Janco’s, who will be a junior at Vanderbilt University this fall majoring in Education, was recently exhibited at the Louvre, in Paris France.

Ms. Janco will lead children through an interactive photography class with digital cameras provided by the Discovery Zone. Pictures will be emailed to parents to view and download at no additional cost. Park Director Tom Ellbogen stated: “We are very excited to offer these unique classes on photography in our diverse ecosystem. Alyssa is the perfect choice to lead these programs. Not only is she an accomplished photographer, but she is a favorite among children of all ages, knows how to communicate to them and knows the park well.

The program is $10 for one student per class. PreK-1st grade classes will be held Friday August 14th and Wednesday August 19th from 9:30am-11am. 2nd-5th grade classes will be held Thursday August 13th and Tuesday August 18th from 9:30am-11am.
