Police Charge Two In Monroe Burglary Attempt

The suspects fled the scene of the burglary shortly before the police arrived, according to their report.

MONROE, CT — The Newtown Police Department foiled a burglary early Wednesday morning in Monroe.

The police say they were made aware of the crime, which had just occurred on Route 25, around 1:30 a.m.

Newtown officers then began checking local businesses, and located a vehicle leaving a local smoke shop parking lot with no plates displayed and its headlights off.

Police stopped the vehicle, and say they determined that the driver, Marcos Scott, 19, and a 17-year-old passenger had just committed the burglary in Monroe.

Further investigation by both Newtown and Monroe police revealed two illegally possessed firearms inside the vehicle, as well as stolen property from the burglary in Monroe, according to Newtown police.

Monroe police charged Scott and the juvenile for their involvement in the burglary. Scott was then transferred to Newtown police, who charged him with carrying a firearm without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number and failure to display a license plate.

Scott's bail was set at $100,000, and he was transferred to Danbury Superior Court for arraignment later in that day.
