Police Identified Monroe Man Killed In House Fire With Dog

MONROE, CT — Police have identified the Monroe man who died alongside a dog in a house fire Sunday evening.

Joseph Soltesz, 61, was killed following the fire at a Cottage Street home in Stevenson, according to Monroe Police.

Firefighters found the two-story home substantially engulfed in flames when they arrived. They found Soltesz and his dog dead inside, according to the department.

Crews continued battling the fire and extinguishing hot spots for several hours into Monday morning. No firefighters were injured.

Additional tanker trucks from surrounding towns were called to the scene because the area does not have fire hydrants.

The Monroe Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire's cause.
