Police: Monroe Car Sold, Stolen, Sold Again, Recovered

A Waterbury man was charged with larceny and forgery.

Monroe police said a Waterbury man faces larceny and forgery charges for stealing a car from a West Haven man.

A Monroe man had listed a 1985 Mazda for sale on Craig’s List and a West Haven resident agreed on July 15 to purchase the vehicle for $300, Monroe police said.

The buyer left the vehicle, saying he would have it towed the next day.

However, Rolando Feliciano, 37, of Waterbury, arrived July 16 and told the seller that he was there to pick up the car for the buyer. He proceeded to load the Mazda on a car dolly and drove off.

Later that day, the actual buyer showed up to claim his car and told the seller he had not sent anyone to pick it up for him.

On Aug. 24, the buyer called Monroe police to say that, after responding to a Craig’s List ad for a Mazda, he said he found his stolen car in Waterbury.

With the assistance of Waterbury police, the buyer met with the Waterbury resident. The Mazda for sale was the one stolen from Monroe July 16, police determined.

The Waterbury resident produced a bill of sale that said he purchased the car from Feliciano July 18.

The document was determined to be a forgery.

Monroe police seized the Mazda and obtained an arrest warrant for Feliciano, who surrendered to police.

The Mazda was returned to the original buyer from West Haven.

Feliciano was charged with second-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and issuing a false statement.

His bond was set at $10,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 23.
