Politico: Jim Himes 'Goes Rogue'

Breaking ranks with much of the rest of his party, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) has "gone rogue" according to online Politico.

The Washington D.C.-based political news site is reporting Himes, along with Gary Peters (D-Mich.), John Adler (D-N.J.), and Peter Welch (D-Vt.), are in the process of "forming a working group to propose major cuts to spending in areas like defense, energy, housing and agriculture that they say would save about $70 billion over ten years."

The article is quick to point out, however, that while Himes may support major spending cuts, he also benefits from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's "Frontline" program, "which funnels money from well-established Democrats to those in traditionally Republican districts." And being that Himes won his seat from Republican Chris Shays in 2008 (a seat which Shays had been in since 1987), it stands to reason that it may be easier for Himes to make this push than others in his party.
