Route 34 Between Monroe and Oxford to Close for Dam Repairs

Route 34 over the Stevenson Dam between Monroe and Oxford will be closed in both directions from May 2 until May 5, according to the FirstLight Hydro Generating Co., the dam’s owner.

It’s being closed so maintenance work can be done on the dam.

The road block starts at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 2 and concludes at 12 a.m. Tuesday, May 5.

Motorists who travel east or west on Route 34 between Oxford and Monroe should plan alternate routes.

“In an effort to minimize the impact to the public, most of the work will be done throughout the weekend,” FirstLight said in a press release.

Traffic will be detoured using state Route 111, Route 110, and Bridge Street in the City of Shelton.

Long-distance traffic is advised to take Route 8 and Interstate 84 to avoid the Stevenson Dam.

Another option is to get on Interstate 84 in Southbury if you’re daily commute takes you to greater Danbury or New York State.
