Shelton Man Faces Forgery Charge in Monroe

He is accused of forging bank withdrawal slips from his father's account.

Monroe police arrested a Shelton man on forgery charges Wednesday.

Jose Alves, 26, of Nicholdale Road, was charged with second-degree forgery, third-degree larceny and second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.

On Aug. 20, Monroe police received a complaint from a Shelton resident who said someone had forged his name on bank withdrawal slips and took cash out of his Monroe bank account.

’The victim reported six transactions between July 1 and July 30 for a total of $2,500.

Using bank video recordings, police identified Alves, who is the son of the victim, as making the fraudulent transactions.

Alves was taken into custody by the Bridgeport Police Department Sept. 16 after learning there were two arrest warrants for him.

He was taken to the Monroe Police Department and was charged. The failure to appear charge is from a suspended driver’s license charge from May.

Alves was held for arraignment on a $3,500 bond.
