Monroe Parks & Rec Offering Sign Language Class

Parks and Recreation will offer a new class teaching sign language starting October 20.

If you would like to learn a new language using your hands instead of your mouth, this is the perfect language for you. Sign language is the natural language for the deaf and is a great language to learn since you can use it in noisy places or when you are across the room from the person you are communicating with. Come learn the history and the origin of sign language. You will learn fingerspelling using the sign language alphabet as well as the signs for words. We will have practice sessions and games to make learning fun.

Diane Gamse has been a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for over 35 years. She has been working in the Stamford Public School system for 10 years with deaf and hard of hearing children ages 5-18. Diane has been fluent in sign language for 40 years and has taught this skill to people of all ages throughout her career.
