Sister Leoncia, the Former Genevieve Kowalewska, Passed Away
Visitation will take place on Wednesday. A Mass will be celebrated on Dec. 31 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe.

Sister Leoncia, the former Genevieve Kowalewska, was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 14, 1921. The third of seven children born to Alexander and Mary (Krawczynska) Kowalewski, Sister Leoncia attended St. Mary Czestochowa Elementary School in Philadelphia. Upon graduation from high school, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Sister Leoncia’s first assignment was to work in the nursery at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, PA where she remained for 18 years. Sister was transferred to St. Christopher Home in Sea Cliff, NY and later to Little Flower Children’s Services in Wading River, NY.
In both places, Sister served as dorm mother to the young children. Sister retired to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in 2002. After a short illness, Sister died peacefully on December 27th. Sister is survived by her nephew, Gary Stachowicz, her nieces Leonia Carroll and Donna Kowalewski, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will take place December 30, 2015 from 3:30 -5 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Online condolences may be made at www.spadaccinofuneralhome.com.
