MONROE, CT -- The 26th Annual Sprint for Monroe kicks off at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 3, in Wolf Park.
The event is a fund raiser for local charities and organizations, which include youth programs, volunteer EMS, a food pantry, and drug and alcohol awareness programs. Last year’s event raised nearly $19,000.
The first year of the race a quarter century ago was a local Jaycees community-service project with just over 200 runners. In 2016, the event fielded nearly 1,000 runners and walkers and has evolved to become a major regional 5K race.
