Stop the Stigma - START the CONVERSATION

Substance abuse education, support, and resources.

Stop the stigma. Start the conversation.

Trumbull and surrounding communities have experienced more than their share of tragedy over the past several months with distressing drug-related overdoses and deaths of several young people. To address this critical situation, TPAUD, clergy, and a group of concerned town leaders and citizens have begun a grassroots effort to help families deal with issues surrounding a loved one’s confirmed or suspected use of drugs, alcohol, and other mind-altering substances. Their plans involve beginning a community conversation in the fall, and starting a support group immediately, as stark reality has shown that issues involving addiction are often life threatening.

In Trumbull, stakeholders are partnering with The C.A.R.E.S. Group - Trumbull to help parents and caregivers become educated and proactive regarding addiction and chemical dependency among their loved ones. By connecting families with one another, through skilled facilitation and mentorship, they will find the means to address the myriad of issues that often accompany the stigma of substance abuse and addiction. Group guidance helps its members cope with the feelings of guilt, shame, fear, denial, anger and frustration that most often accompany dealing with this disease.
