Summer is here, and the Monroe area is packed with ways to enjoy the season. From outdoor gatherings and local markets to community festivals and family-friendly events, there's plenty happening close to home. Below are some events and activities to add to your calendar. Before you head out, it's always a good idea to confirm hours, weather plans and ticket details with event organizers.
1. Jam At The Dam
When: Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25; gates open at 3 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday
Where: Z-TOPIA | 1545 Monroe Tpke, Monroe

Jam at the Dam is a family-friendly, rain-or-shine event, featuring live music and entertainment, delicious food trucks, local vendors and a beer/wine garden. Parking is free, as are tickets for kids age 5 and under.

2. Mini Renaissance Faire
When: Saturday, August 1; 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m
Where: Edith Wheeler Memorial Library | 733 Monroe Tpke, Monroe
The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library will host a Mini Renaissance Faire, featuring activities, presentations, artists, themed goods and food vendors. As of the time of publication, the library is still seeking vendors, artists and performers; there is no cost to table as a vendor, and payment for performers is negotiable.

3. Sand Jam Movie Nights
When: Select Fridays through August 7; dance party 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m., movies begin at dark (8:45 p.m.)
Where: Jennings Beach | South Benson Rd, Fairfield
Down the road in Fairfield, the Sand Jam Movie Night series will bring evening dance parties and family-friendly films to Jennings Beach. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and beach chairs, and the concession stand will be open during movie nights. Non-residents can pay $40 at the gate by credit card to enter.

4. Arts In The Park Summer Concert Series
When: Select Fridays through August 7; concerts start at 7 p.m.
Where: Wolfe Park | 285 Culters Farm Rd, Monroe
Kick off the weekend with free live music at the Arts in the Park Summer Concert Series, featuring a variety of genres for every musical taste. No registration is required for this free event series; guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and chairs.

5. Summer Play Days at Trumbull Mall
When: Saturdays, July 25 and August 15; 12 p.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Trumbull Mall, Upper Level | 5065 Main St, Trumbull
Less than 15 minutes from Monroe, the Trumbull Mall will bring free family-friendly entertainment to local families. Each day offers something new, including live performances, complimentary photo ops with characters, face painters, balloon artists and hands-on craftivities.

6. The Monroe Farmers Market
When: Fridays through October 23 | 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Monroe Town Green | 7 Fan Hill Rd, Monroe
The Monroe Farmers Market—named the No. 1 Farmers’ Market in Connecticut for three consecutive years—brings locally-grown produce, baked goods and prepared foods to the Town Green. Attendees can also enjoy free entertainment from area performers, along with educational events for all ages.
