The Golden Cone Ice Cream Parlor: Another Venue to Beat the Heat
The new shop opened its doors at 406 Main Street on Friday
A couple stopped by The Golden Cone Ice Cream Parlor at 406 Main Street to beat the heat on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. Sem Arslan filled a waffle cone with scoops of ice cream for the woman and blended a shake for her boyfriend.
He later drizzled strawberry sauce and hot fudge over a banana split for another patron.
The Golden Cone first opened on Friday and balloons still adorned the entrance outside, where one of the signs stands amid the backdrop of construction equipment and markers from the State Department of Transportation's project to widen portions of Route 25.

"I am on a tough corner with the construction," Arslan said. "But hopefully, we'll make it."
Arslan won Planning & Zoning Commission approval for the ice cream shop with his brother, Yusuf, but Yusuf, who is in the U.S. Special Forces, was recently called to serve overseas.

"My son is going to help me," Sem said of Tolga, 17.
One of The Golden Cone's promotions is that its small cup is the same size — and price — as some competitor's large sizes, according to Sem Arslan.
The Golden Cone has 32 different flavors of hard ice cream, including Cherry Chocolate Crunch, Butter Pecan and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
"The best sellers are Toasted Coconut," Arslan said, adding Mousse Trax, Oreo and Cotton Candy are also popular.
The three sherbet flavors are Rainbow, Orange and Raspberry. Sorbet flavors are Plum, Kiwi, Lime and Cantaloupe. Arslan said his shop also has frozen yogurt and fat free ice cream.
In addition to sundaes, shakes, flurries and banana splits, The Golden Cone also has ice cream cakes. Arslan said cakes can be decorated for special orders a week ahead of time.
The Golden Cone is open seven days a week, from noon to 10 p.m.
"Everybody loves it so far, of course," Arslan said of the new ice cream parlor. "But we'll see."
