Trash Fire Extinguished After Improper Ash Disposal: Monroe FD

Please dispose of your ashes properly.

(Monroe Volunteer FD)

MONROE, CT — Monroe firefighters are reminding residents to properly dispose of ashes after a trash fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to a trash can fire around 2 a.m. and found ashes had ignited the plastic can and its contents.

The proper way to dispose of ashes is to place them in a metal container, douse them with water and place at least 10 feet away from your house or any other structures. They can remain hot for several days.
