Wolfe Park Pool is Free to All ... Again
First Selectman and Parks and Rec. Director make Pool Free to All Monroe Residents Amid Heat Wave.

Extreme temperatures are in the forecast from now until the early part of the week. In an effort to keep cool, officials are making Wolfe Park Pool free to all townspeople from Sunday to Tuesday, July 27.
Monroe residents must show a valid I.D. as proof of residency.
"We've got the resources, so why not use it for the relief of our residents in this heat wave?" Vavrek said in a telephone interview Sunday.

Parks and Recreation Director David Freedman had originally came up with the idea about a month ago, when public health concerns about the elderly and those without air conditioning were felt throughout the region.
This is the second time the town has made the pool free due to the heat.

"We figured it's gonna be hot the next couple days and we wanted to give back to Monroe residents," Freedman said Sunday.
Freedman said this is a good way to say thank you to those who voted for the new pool at a Town Meeting, adding his hope that more people will sign up for memberships after enjoying the pool.
