Woman Charged with DUI Nearly Struck Monroe Police Officer: Cops
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning.

A Bridgeport woman was arrested for driving under the influence after police say she nearly hit a Monroe Police officer.
According to police, a special duty officer was conducting traffic control at a construction site on Route 25 on May 12 at around 2 a.m. when a white 2007 Cadillac CTS drove past the site in an erratic manner.
The driver, Shandra Velasquez, 22 allegedly drove at one of the officers almost striking her and swerved through the area almost striking traffic cones.

A second special duty officer at the site stopped Velasquez and upon speaking with her detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, police said.
Velasquez told police she was traveling from Bridgeport to Derby. According to police, she was ”obviously lost”.

She failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and refusal to submit to the breath test.
Velasquez was given a $500 bond and a court date of May 19.
