The department is looking to close its Norwich and New London job centers in favor of a single consolidated Uncasville branch.

NEW LONDON, CT -- The state Department of Labor is negotiating a long-term lease at a vacant supermarket in Uncasville, The Day reported.

The department is looking to close its Norwich and New London job centers in favor of a single consolidated branch, according to The Day. The state is negotiating with the owners of the former Beit Brothers supermarket at 601 Route 32.

Mayor Michael Passero is attempting to stop the process, and has appealed to the commissioner of the state labor department to reconsider, The Day reported. He said the decision was made by a group lacking representation of some of the largest cities in the region.
