2 Montville Students Study Active Shooter Response Training

MONTVILLE, CT — Montville High School seniors Emma Baxter and Indigo Whisman have received the Board of Education's blessing to study active shooter response training which the Montville School District may consider implementing in the future, writes The Day.

The students are looking into Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (or ALICE) Training, a program offered by the private security company, ALICE Training Institute, that instructs teachers and administrators about what to do in the event of an active shooter in a school. Baxter and Whisman are not recommending students receive the training.

Montville schools already have safety plans in place, but the Board of Education and acting Superintendent Laurie Pallin support the idea of the students learning more about the ALICE program and asked that the two give a presentation about it in the coming weeks. Training institute officials say that teachers and administrators at about 20 Connecticut schools have already gone through the ALICE training.
