"As the meeting concluded, the incarcerated individual stood up from his seat, and instead of leaving approached the still seated staff member and forcibly placed his hand on her shoulder while attempting to sexually assault her," state officials said. "The social worker was able to fend off the attack while calling out for assistance. Responding correctional staff quickly secured the assaultive individual."

The Connecticut State Police responded to the facility to investigate the incident.

State officials said criminal charges are expected.

“My thoughts, prayers and unwavering support are with the courageous member of our correctional family during this unsettling and extremely difficult time,” said Interim Commissioner Sharonda Carlos in a statement. “The personal safety of our staff while performing their duties remains my highest priority. I encourage any staff member who is having difficulty processing this incident to reach out to our Employee Assistance Unit for confidential crisis counseling and peer support.”
