Both plazas will also feature additional parking, solar panels, back-up generators, improved stormwater management systems for better draining, new landscaping, and safer traffic patterns, the Eagle reported.
The Branford northbound plaza will have an idle-free truck area allowing trucks to give their engines a rest and hook into a heating, cooling, and Internet service system. That plaza will additionally feature a state police substation.
The southbound plaza will have a separation of lanes for trucks and cars.
Both Branford plazas are expected to close in April for renovations and reopen in April 2013. Travelers are encouraged to visit the nearby Madison and soon-to-open Milford service plazas.
