Fast Facts About MEF

MEF does "more than meets the eye".

Year after year, the volunteer directors of the Montville Education Foundation strive to raise as much money as possible so that they can turn it around and give it to our community.

We still hear that people really don’t know what the foundation does, so here are the facts: What is the foundation?

MEF is one of 75 education foundations in Connecticut, incorporated in 2008. Since its inception, the foundation has labored to raise money to support innovative educational projects and programs in the Montville community-at-large.

In essence, it has become the conduit through which the community can immediately and positively feel a direct impact.

Contributions made to MEF remain in the town to benefit our community and district to benefit our schools. And, because it is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization, contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, and donors are issued statements for tax purposes.

How is the foundation managed? The MEF Board of Directors — a maximum of 17 volunteer directors are in service at any given time — represents a broad spectrum of the community.

The board cooperates with, but works independently from, the Town and the Montville School District and its Board of Education and, hence, can move more quickly on educational needs and respond more flexibly to items that are not easily addressed by the town or schools themselves.

What does the foundation
support? The foundation supports educational projects and programs in Montville through the MEF grant program.

How much does the foundation give away? To date, the MEF has provided more than $23,000 in support to the town, students and teachers of Montville.

Why should I donate to MEF? I already participate in my school’s PTA/PTO/Booster Club.
It’s important to do both. The PTA’s, PTO’s and booster clubs play critical roles in raising money for immediate, campus-specific needs and providing parent volunteers to help teachers and administrators be more effective.

The Montville Education Foundation, on the other hand, raises money for the “bigger picture” enhancements across the community and district, including programs that enrich and expand the learning environment for our residents of all ages beyond the established curriculum and classrooms, as learning is lifelong.

How is the money raised? Donors may contribute to the annual appeal campaign for “Friends of the Foundation”, MEF’s year-round sustaining support network. The volunteer board of directors orchestrates a variety of highly successful fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual and the “” at MHS.
