Older Americans Month

A month designated to honor the Senior Citizens of our Nation.

As you may or may not know, May is “Older Americans Month”. This recognition, for Seniors Citizens, was established by President, John F. Kennedy in 1963 and was known as “Senior Citizens Month”. President, Jimmy Carter changed it to “Older Americans Month” in 1980. This designation is a time to pay tribute, in anyway, to our Senior Citizens throughout the nation. It’s a time to let them know they are an asset to our community.

This year’s theme of Older Americans Month is “Connecting the Community”. This theme allows us to “pay homage to the many ways in which older adults bring inspiration and continuity to the fabric of our communities. It also highlights the many ways technology is helping older Americans live longer, healthier and more engaged lives”

I ask that you take time to appreciate the Seniors in our community not only this month but always. They truly are “the fabric of our community”.
