U.S. Mint Releases National Medal to Commemorate 9/11 Tragedy

The U.S. Mint has released a special metal to pay tribute to the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

As our country will soon remember the 10th Anniversary to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a new medal not only recognizes the tragedy of that fateful day but also the triumph of the resilient American Spirit.

On the head side, Lady Liberty is featured holding up the Lamp of Remembrance. Beacons of light stretch skyward behind her.  These symbolize the immeasurable loss on 9/11 along with the resiliency of those who persevered. Inscribed into the medal are “Always Remember” and “2001-2011”

On the tails side is an eagle with a backdrop of water. This symbolizes peace, serenity, and healing. Inscribed on this side are the words “Honor” and “Hope”.
