Every junior in high school knows that there will be those late nights (Even all-nighters) with projects, college planning, and to trump it al-- stress. Many ask themselves what will make them happy in the future in terms of colleges and career choices, but there is one major thing that makes juniors happy during the school year that many don’t realize. This isn’t a mystery to most, but nothing feels better to juniors than feeling confident about their choices. They have been taking instructions from every person older than them their whole lives, and being able to choose their own college with their own preferences really brings a good feeling upon them. They truly feel that they are in the driver’s seat to their journey on the path of life.
Independence seems guaranteed right when you walk in the doors of high school, but this is never really tested until you are choosing things that are going to affect you at least four years down the road. Trust me, personal experience has brought me to the conclusion that college is that big step that sets juniors apart from sophomores and freshman. It brings in the outside world that seems so safe from inside the walls of school. It is frightening at first too, but once you are choosing that college that feels right for you, something comes over you that makes you feel as if everything is falling into place for once.
I am writing about this because before this happens, you may feel that nothing is right. A lot of people don’t know what they want to do when they get older. I can't blame them. Does anyone really know what they want to do twenty or even thirty years down the road? When you have this figured out or you have a college in mind that will steer you in the right direction, relief takes over and you become confident in your decisions. So when you talk to a junior about college and what they want to do, ask them if they are happy with his or her decision. Once a student finds that school that makes him or her happy, it brings in a whole new world of growth and good feeling.
