The Connecticut Sun announced today it has signed former Marist forward Rachele Fitz to a training camp contract.
As per team policy, terms were not released.
The 6-foot Fitz, who led Marist to four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season titles, is the Red Foxes' all-time leader in seven different statistical categories, including games played, points and rebounds. She also holds six Marist single-season records. She is the first Marist women's basketball player to score 2,000 career points, and is also the first to grab 1,000 career rebounds. She finished her career with 2,447 points and 1,066 rebounds.
Fitz was named MAAC Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2007, the same year in which she was named MAAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. She was also named First Team Academic All-District by ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA twice and was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American as a senior in 2010. During the 2010-11 season, Fitz played in 15 games for Basket Esch in Luxembourg, averaging 26.5 points and 11.5 rebounds.
