Fatal Montville Overdose Leads To Guilty Plea

The case involved underage prostitution and two separate overdose deaths.

NEW LONDON, CT — A local man pleaded guilty to a heroin distribution charge that stemmed from two fatal overdose deaths in May 2016.

Groton Police responded to a motel room and found a 17-year-old female who was suffering from an overdose. Two doses of Narcan were ineffective and she was transported to the hospital where she later died, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

An investigation revealed that Ramon Gomez brought the victim who he knew to be under 18 to the motel to engage in prostitution. He sold heroin to another person who gave it to the victim. Nestor Santana aka "Beans," 30 supplied Gomez with the fatal heroin, according to the district office.

Police also investigated a May overdose death in Montville in a Route 32 apartment. The 34-year-old woman died from acute ethanol and fentanyl intoxication.

Santana supplied the drugs to Gomez, who supplied them to James Butler, who gave it to the victim, the office said.

Santana was arrested on state charges in September 2016 and federal charges in January 2017.

Santana pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 100 grams or more of heroin, an offense that carries a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson onDecember 13, 2017, in Hartford.

Gomez and Bouthillier have pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a minor and heroin distribution offenses, and Butler has pleaded guilty to a heroin distribution offense. Each awaits sentencing.
