Firefighter Defends Himself Against Civil Case Stemming from Montville Bar Fight

His charges stemmed from a bar fight that dated back to 2013.

NEW LONDON, CT- A city firefighter has successfully defended himself against a civil lawsuit that dated back to an incident in 2013, The Day reported.

Alfred Mayo chose to represent himself in the case, which was brought upon him by a man claiming to have gotten into a bar fight with Mayo at the Montville Polish Club, according to The Day. Marlon Tejada of Groton claimed he was sucker-punched by Mayo after a disagreement, though Mayo said the punch was in self-defense after being hit a number of times by Tejada.

Tejada’s testimony was deemed inconsistent and unfounded, while Mayo’s defense was found clear and credible by the court, according to The Day. Mayo previously had a brush with the law when he was arrested in 2014 by Norwich Police for cutting down a row of hedges bordering his and a neighbor’s property, but the charges were ultimately dropped.
