Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

There’s no place like the beach—sea spray in the air, sand between your toes. Oh, and don’t forget the tons of other people who will be there, too. You know, the ones who sit just a little too close, shake sandy towels your way, loudly shout at their kids or chase after runaway umbrellas.

Maybe you like thrill of hunting for a spot on the beach. Or maybe a packed beach is just perfect for people-watching. But hey, those of you looking to switch things up this weekend (and a little beyond) are in the right place. Check out our picks for the weekend below:

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena

WHY GO: Your ticket buys you a skybox seat for the show, an hors d'oeuvres buffet dinner, and a whole lot of good karma for helping DARE, the Montville Youth Center, and Montville Social Services.

PRICING: Tickets are $100 each, which is only a little more than the regular price - and gives you the joy of knowing that you're helping.

WHERE/WHEN: Monday, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Richmond Country Club, 74 Sandy Pond Road, Richmond, R.I

WHY GO: It's a beautiful course, and your greens fee helps support the Lions Club, which does great stuff for people in need in Montville.

PRICING: $125. That gets you The feature includes 18 holes of golf with cart, entry into all Par 3 holes, one chance at the putting contest ($5 for each additional chance), a box lunch with drink, steak dinner, raffle prizes, famous golf club raffle. WHERE/WHEN: Mystic Seaport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

WHY GO: Boats, boats and more boats! Oh, and a car show from 1 to 3 p.m. and the  in the evening! Boat parade in the river begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

4. THE VALLEY RAILROAD CIRCUS TRAIN AND BIG TOP SHOW

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday this weekend, and the following weekend at the Essex Steam Train Grounds in Essex.

WHY GO: Ride a circus train, catch an acrobat show and partake in all the fun of a big top circus.

PRICING: Tickets are $25 each. Off-site parking is required.

WHERE/WHEN: This weekend at  in Gales Ferry.

WHY GO: Blueberry muffins, blueberry pie, blueberry pancakes…

PRICING: $2.25 per pound.
