Griswold Man Charged With Armed Robbery At Boat Launch: Police

A Griswold man is facing armed robbery charges in connection to a May incident at a boat launch.

GRISWOLD, CT — A man is accused of armed robbery in an incident at the Quinebaug River State Boat Launch in May. Davontae Fontaine, 21, of Griswold, is facing numerous charges, according to a statement from state Environmental Conservation police.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Quinebaug River State Boat Launch off Butts Bridge Road in Canterbury on May 17. Before officers arrived, the alleged suspect had fled.

Following investigation, police found that the the suspect contacted the victim prior to the robbery to arrange to meet at the boat launch. When the two met, the suspect, "while in possession of a deadly instrument," assaulted the victim and stole $14 in cash, according to police.

The suspect is then accused of stealing the victim's cell phone and destroying it before fleeing.

Fontaine was charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, and breach of peace.

He was released on a $25,000 surety bond to the custody of the Connecticut State Police Troop E for separate charges.

Fontaine was arraigned Monday at Danielson Superior Court.
