The motorist faces multiple charges, including operating under the influence, according to state police.

MONTVILLE, CT — A Griswold woman drove the wrong way on I-395 Saturday, narrowly avoiding head-on collisions, according to state police.

Troop E dispatchers received multiple 911 calls Saturday around 2:30 a.m. of a wrong-way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-395 in the area of exit 11 in Norwich.

Troopers located the vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan, as it was approaching the Troop E barracks in Montville. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver turned into the Troop E parking lot and attempted to evade them, police said.

Troopers intentionally collided their cruisers into the vehicle to prevent it from getting back on the highway the wrong way.

No one was injured, police said.

Police said they had to physically remove the driver after she refused to comply with verbal commands to exit her vehicle. Police said the driver showed signs of intoxication.

Police charged the driver, Cailin Sorder, 34, of Griswold, with operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a highway, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with an officer, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Sorder was held on a $50,000 bond and appeared in Superior Court in Norwich on Monday.

A motorist who was nearly struck head-on by Sorder's vehicle on I-395 provided dash camera footage to state police, police said.
