The doll's origin traces back to 1970 when a mother purchased the doll for her daughter, Donna, at a hobby store, according to The New England Society of Psychic Research website.
Within a few days of bringing it home, Donna, a college student, claimed the doll would move on its own. Donna reportedly placed the doll on the couch on several occasions before leaving for work, only to return home and find the doll in her bedroom with the door closed.

Ed and Lorraine took interest in the doll and, at Donna's request following a paranormal investigation, took it home with them.
