It's Time to Vote on Yahoo!

It’s that time of year once again to submit your nominations for the Yahoo Contributor Awards!

As you may know, the articles that you have probably read of mine in Patch sites throughout Connecticut are also published in Yahoo to help me gain national exposure.

Between now and 12 midnight (Mountain time) on January 1, 2014, I am asking for your help.

Simply log into your Yahoo account and visit http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/12290/corey_sipe.html to nominate your favorite articles as content of the year or me as a contributor of the year.

I’ve been a Yahoo contributor since June 16, 2006 with 1,147,547 page views and 904 pieces of content at press time, however you can only nominate content I created in 2013.

If you nominate, Yahoo recommends giving “an eloquent and concise reason you think this is an award-winning piece of content.”

You might choose to nominate one of the top 10 articles with the highest page view counts this year as of 12/24/13 at 4 a.m.

They included:

1. “Taino Smokehouse in Middletown, CT Welcomes Barbecue Lovers” with 399 Yahoo views along with 6 comments, 4 likes, and 1 recommend on Patch.

2. “DARF: Murphy Talks About Deaths to Further Agenda” with 194 Yahoo views along with 12 comments, 10 likes, and 1 recommend on Patch.

3. “Big Lots is Coming to Norwichtown” with 159 Yahoo views along with 2 comments, 21 likes, and 2 recommends on Patch.

4. “Work Continues on Montville’s Rest Stop” with 114 Yahoo views along with 2 comments, 4 likes, and 1 e-mail share on Patch.

5. “Rainforest Cafe Should Open in Eastern Connecticut” with 92 Yahoo views along with 1 comment and 1 recommend on Patch.

6. “Nine Connecticut J.C. Penney Stores Will Remain Open” with 85 Yahoo views along with 1 comment and 2 likes on Patch.

7. “It’s Time to go 75 M.P.H. in CT” with 79 Yahoo views along with 31 comments and 1 recommend on Patch.

8. “Fort Shantok Area Affected by Flood Waters” with 72 Yahoo views along with 0 comments and 7 likes on Patch.

9. “J.C. Penney Will Close East Brook Mall Store August 3” with 60 views with 0 comments on Patch.

10. “We Don’t Need Another McDonald’s in Montville, CT” with 59 views along with 12 comments, 4 likes, and 2 recommends on Patch.

You can also vote on other content on Yahoo that has proved to be quite popular on Patch and Facebook such as:

1. “More Details Emerge for I-395 Exit Re-Numbering” with 1,174 Facebook shares, 9 e-mail shares, 5 print shares, and 1 recommend.

2. “Emergency Certification Procedures Are Being Abused” with 17 comments, 333 Facebook likes and 8 recommends.

3. “Misquamicut Fees Unfriendly to Connecticut Visitors” with 30 comments, 123 Facebook shares, 3 e-mail shares, 2 print shares, and 5 recommends.

4. “Numbers Show Gun Control Measures Does Not Decrease Gun Violence” with 55 comments, 10 Facebook likes and 10 recommends.

5. “Just Say No to Distracted Driving” with 22 commends, 10 Facebook likes, and 4 recommends.

Yahoo will be giving out eight prizes, three winners for contributor of the year and five winners for content of the year.

For contributor of the year, Yahoo is “looking for writers whose unique voices, remarkable expertise, and expert-level writing skills moved audiences this year through a library of truly exceptional content.”

For content of the year, Yahoo is looking for “content that sticks with you weeks of months after it was published. Did you look at the world differently after reading an article this year? If so, nominate it?…take a moment to think about which articles you read this year that you just HAD to share with others or save to read over and over again, then nominate them.”

The judging panel will consider the number and quality of nominations for 10% of the Contributor of the Year scoring and 20% of the Content of the Year scoring.

Winners will be notified on or before January 28 while winners will be announced on or before February 7.

I thank you for in advance for your help and wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year 2014.
