List of New Exit Numbers Released for I-395 and Route 2A
Connecticut DOT Released a List of New Exit Numbers for I-395 and Route 2A. Signs will begging to be installed during this winter.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation released the list of new exit numbers for Interstate 395 and Route 2A in Eastern Connecticut. The new numbering will match the highwayβs mileage marker numbers. Regarding signage on Route 2A West at the I-395 North showing that Route 2A West continues onto the interstate, Kevin Nursick, spokesman for the Department of Transportation confirmed this is true stating, βRoute 2A overlaps with Interstate 395 and begins in Norwich - the exit number continuity for the interstate is maintained on the overlap portionβ and that βitβs anticipated that the signs will begin to be installed during this winter. Typically the new numbers will be within the new exit crown and the old number would be surmounted. Both directions are to be revised on an interchange by interchange basis.β
Old exit numbers along I-395 range from 77 to 100 while new numbers will range from 2 to 53. On Route 2A, the old exit numbers are 1 and 2 and will be replaced with new exit numbers 4 through 6. Interchanges with north/south and east/west indicated after the number will be replaced with A and B.
Since there are not exits every mile, certain numbers will be missing from the new exit numbering system on I-395. They will be different on both sides of the highway as some interchanges are only northbound or southbound. On the northbound side, missing numbers will include 1, 3-5, 7-8, 10, 12, 15-17, 20, 23, 25-27, 30-31, 33-34, 36, 39-40, 42, 44, 48, and 51-52. On the southbound side they include 1, 3-4, 7-8, 10, 12, 15-17, 19-20, 23, 25-27, 30-31, 33-36, 39-40, 42, 44, 48-49, and 51-52.

In regards to other Connecticut highways, Nursick stated βAll expressways will be renumbered in conjunction with their respective sign replacement projects. Some routes like I-95 have multiple projects for sign replacement. The department plans to revise all of the numbers on I-95 in conjunction with the last signing project on I-95 which currently project number 173-354 tentatively scheduled for construction in 2018/19β.
