Loaded Handgun Seized, Convicted Felon Arrested In Montville: CSP

The arrest occurred on Saturday after a motor vehicle stop.

MONTVILLE, CT — A 42-year-old New York man - who authorities said is a convicted felon - was arrested on illegal weapons and narcotics charges Saturday following a motor vehicle stop on Route 2A in Montville, according to Connecticut State Police.

Albert E. Hairston was pulled over at about 9:30 p.m. after he was clocked driving a white 2006 Cadillac DTS 75 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone.

"Immediately after stopping the vehicle, troopers approached and made contact with the operator," wrote state police on Facebook. "Along with other indicators of criminal activity, troopers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle."

A search of the vehicle was conducted using K-9 Trooper Molly, who "indicating the presence of narcotics." Hairston then allegedly admitted to concealing marijuana in his groin area.

"During the search of the vehicle, a loaded Glock 19, 9mm handgun was located underneath the seats. Hairston was found to be a convicted felon from New York City who is prohibited from possessing firearms."

Hairston was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
  • Criminal Possession of a Pistol or Revolver
  • Possession of Less Than 1/2 oz of Marijuana
  • Failure to Obey STC signs

He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Jan. 3, 2019.
