Man Driving Up To 100 MPH Charged With OUI In Montville: State Police

MONTVILLE, CT — A Guilford man was arrested earlier this week after state police say he was driving at speeds up to 100 mph while under the influence in Montville.

The 21-year-old was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

On Aug. 2 at approximately 2:12 a.m., a CT State Trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on I-395 between Exits 2 and 5 in Waterford when he saw a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, state police said.

The trooper tried to catch up to the vehicle and determined it was traveling at speeds of up to 100 mph in a 65 mph zone, and only reduced its speed around a curve at the Exit 5 ramp, according to state police.

The vehicle was seen drifting to the left and onto the painted solid yellow line multiple times before the trooper eventually made a vehicle stop on the right shoulder between the Exit 6 entrance and exit ramps, state police said.

Two unsecured passengers were seen in the truck/cargo compartment of the vehicle, along with two more unsecured passengers sitting between two secured passengers in the second row of seating, state police said.

The driver showed possible signs of impairment and subsequently agreed to and failed standardized field sobriety tests, state police said, adding he was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop E in Montville for processing.

The arrestee was released on a $5000 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Norwich Superior Court on Aug. 11.

Additionally, infractions were issued to the four unsecured adult passengers in the vehicle.
