MHS Cheerleaders Rocked it in 2013, Making it to State Championship

Team takes 1st in ECC and 4th in the state! Goooooooo, Montville!

It’s not possible for Theresa Quibble to be prouder.

The Montville High School graduate and former cheerleader has been coaching the cheerleading team for three years, the last two as head coach. It’s her passion. And with the stunning season the team had, Quibble is beaming with pride. With help from assistant coach Beth Kotfer, she took the team to the state championship; a first.

“This was a wonderful year for the MHS cheerleaders,” Quibble said.

The team began the season with a win at their first competition, called ‘Compete for a Cure,’ where the proceeds from admission go to St. Jude's Hospital.

The squad’s second competition was the Eastern Connecticut Conference; they took home the first place prize and two cheerleaders, Caitlyn Marsh and Taylor MacCracken, were chosen as All-Stars.

Because of that win, the team headed to the state championship, “where the competition is always a lot steeper," Quibble explained.

“The girls were ready this year to push for a top spot. Montville has never taken a top spot in the state competition, ever, so we knew it wasn't going to be easy,” Quibble said.

“The girls had a great performance, but not their best, and tensions were high. But we walked away with 4th place, only missing 3rd by one point -- a record for Montville High Cheerleading and also the highest score at states by any of the ECC teams,” Quibble said.

(Check out this YouTube video of their performance; if this is not athleticism, then I don’t know what is!)

“I'm very proud of these girls and the program, which has really grown and improved in my two short years as head coach, which makes me and Beth very proud,” Quibble said.
