The Montville Board of Education is one of 11 boards in the state to be named a Board of Distinction by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.
The group, along with the Connecticut Association of Public Schools Superintendents, is holding its annual convention Friday and today at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton.
There are 166 boards of education in the state. To win the Board of Distinction award, a board must first be successful in 22 of 34 Level I criteria, said Glenn Coleman, retired deputy commissioner of education. The board must reach the Level I leadership goals two times in four years to win the Board of Distinction award.

The Level I criteria include goals in student achievement, community relations and board member professional development; the boards must reach a minimum of three achievements in each category.

It is Montville's third year earning the award.
