Montville High School Shooting Rumor Found to Be Untrue
Extra police officers were stationed at the school on Monday, for additional support.
The Montville CT Police Department received information on Sunday night, of a threat of a possible school shooting at Montville High School, for Monday, April 27.
Police said:
“This was investigated thoroughly and found to be untrue. This rumor started after a fight that occurred at MHS. The High School investigated this rumor on Friday and also found it to be untrue. This morning extra police officers were at the school to welcome students and to provide additional support.”

Some parents were not happy with the way the situation was handled and commented on the Montville Police Department’s Facebook thread.
Jennifer Brown wrote: “Even though the threat turn out untrue, it would have been nice to know before our children showed up at school with the increase in police presence. This way us parents do not get a call at 7 a.m. from our freaked out child informing us of what’s going on. I am very glad the threat turned out untrue, and I am very thankful that the police where still there to protect our children just in case. But even a simple post like this BEFORE our children were sent off to school would have been considerate so parents don’t spend half the morning freaking out over this.”

Bonnie-Erin Reiley Page suggested: “Maybe they didn’t want to cause widespread panic for something that turned out to be untrue? I agree, at least an email would have been good.”
Police responded to the people’s concerns and said:
“ Thank you for all of your comments and concerns! Many threats are brought to our attention throughout the year. We, along with the school determin on a case to case basis if and how we are going to notify parents.
We are sensitive to your concerns, as most of us are parents as well, some with children within this school system. We will take into concideration your thoughts on notifications before hand and will attempt to do that next time if we are able to.
This case was investigated for multiple hours previously. Our presence at the school this morning was just for peace of mind. We will not get into the particulars of the case but what we can tell you is that this was a rumor that grew legs and changed.”
