Montville Police, Medical Professionals Torn Over Narcan Decision

A state law will go into effect Oct. 1 that requires first responders to be equipped with Narcan.

MONTVILLE, CT – Police and medical professionals have been torn over a number of issues in light of a recent effort to equip police with Narcan, The Day reported.

Tensions have risen in light of the decision over how much training police officers should have to administer the overdose reversal drug, according to The Day. The extent to which they should be responsible for medical care has also been debated.

A state law will go into effect Oct. 1 that requires first responders to be equipped with Narcan, The Day reported. Some police officials have suggested that officers are not medical people, and such responsibilities should be handled by EMT’s.
