Montville Teens Defy the Adolescent Stereotype, by Natalie Smith

Many people believe that teenagers are lazy and don’t appreciate what their parents do for them. Fortunately, Montville teenagers do not fit this stereotype. The vast majority of us are hardworking kids. For example, I have been working since I was 13. I started babysitting on a regular basis my freshman year and last year when I turned 16 I got a part time job. I learned from a young age that money doesn’t grow on trees and that if I wanted something I had to work for it or save my Christmas and birthday money. Since I wasn’t a privileged child, I learned to be frugal and not waste my money.

Some students in Montville don’t appreciate the value of money but most do. If they don’t have  a job, students at least realize how hard their parents have to work to make their dreams possible and in turn try to work hard in school to get good grades and scholarships for college. Montville’s teenagers are willing to do anything including working as hard as possible to overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams. After all, hard work will be rewarded in the end.
