Oakdale Girl Named State Finalist in National Teen Pageant
Cassandra Grace Meehan named state finalist in the National American Miss Connecticut Pageant
Cassandra Grace Meehan, 16, of Oakdale, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Connecticut Pageant, slated to be held July 20-22, 2013 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4-18, and have five different age divisions. Cassandra will be participating in the Junior Teen age division, along with other outstanding young ladies from across the state of Connecticut.
The pageant winner will compete in the National American Miss Pageant in Hollywood, California.
The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to "celebrating America's future leaders fostering life-long skills of poise, presentation, community involvement, and age-appropriate competition." The rules state girls under 12 are not allowed to wear make-up and there are no swimsuit competitions. The pageant program is based on inner-beauty, self-confidence, skills and achievement.
Meehan's activities include singing and acting for school productions and professionally. A graduate of Barbizon School of Acting and Modelling, Cassandra has appeared on Law & Order SVU, The Big C, and Men in Black III. She also enjoys softball, fencing, and her horses, donkeys, cats, chickens and guinea hens on her family's farm. A dedicated community volunteer, Cassandra has raised funds for epilepsy research in her youngest sister's name (Cyndimae), and she has volunteered many hours at Healing with Horses at WildRose Horse Farm in Montville. Cassandra also loves helping the Mohegan Tribe, of which she is a member, by volunteering with cultural and community programs.
