Rep. - Elect Kathleen McCarty Receives Legislative Committee Posts
Rep. - Elect McCarty will represent Waterford and Montville on the Appropriations, Education and Public Health Committees.

HARTFORD – Connecticut House Republicans on Monday assigned to three legislative committees. McCarty was elected to a seat that hasn’t been held by a Republican for 40 years to represent the 38th district of Waterford and Montville, and will begin her first two-year term on January 7th.
When McCarty takes office, she will serve on the legislature’s Appropriations Committee, which handles matters related to state agency budgets, state employees’ salaries, pensions and collective bargaining agreements, and arbitration awards for state employees. She will also serve on the Education and Public Health Committees.
McCarty’s role on the Public Health Committee will see her consider issues surrounding all health matters such as emergency medical services, licensing boards, and controlled substances.

The legislature’s Education Committee handles issues related to the Department of Education, local and regional boards of education and the law of collective bargaining covering teachers and professional employees of those boards as well as the commission on arts, libraries, museums and historical and cultural associations.
As the Former Chairman to the Waterford Board of Education, McCarty is ready to tackle any issues that face the Education Committee this term. A Master of Arts in Teaching and professional experience as a Connecticut High School Teacher and Higher Education Administrative Assistant has prepared her for such a position.
