Rescuing Horses from Slaughter
Please read, share, and donate. These are our PETS being sent to slaughter!
Hi folks! My horseback riding instructor and I have made an effort to rescue horses that would other wise go to the slaughterhouses. We rescue from New Holland Auction Stables in Pennsylvania where a lot of the horses are shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered. We have many fundraisers going on right now including Party Lite, Mary Kay, and Jamberry Nails (feel free to contact me asap if you’re interested in these as they are ending NEXT WEEK 2/7/16). I am also collecting cans and bottles to return for donations. These can be dropped off on the side of the building at 175 Norwich New London Tpke. in Uncasville (just across the street from the Brown Derby). What do these donations go towards? Right now we have one horse named Redemption who was rescued from being slaughtered who needs a $3000 surgery. She has an old injury that requires surgery to give her a longer, healthier life. To even rescue a horse from this sick fate, it costs about $400-$900 to purchase them from the “kill buyers” that take them to slaughter PLUS costs of veterinary bills, quarantine, and transportation. Once horses are here at Precious Memories Equestrian Center in Salem, CT the horses must be fed and given bedding. We feed the horses Safe Choice Original grain, found for about $15 per bag at Tractor Supply and bedding is $5 per bag. Not to mention the cost of hay... In addition to the horses, we also have pigs, a goat, and barn cats that we all feed. Recently, one of our barn cats become very sick with an upper respiratory infection and got caught in the cold. He is at Colchester Veterinary Hospital racking up over $600 in veterinary bills as I write this. My riding instructor, Becki Starr, does a lot for the animals, but she can’t do it all alone. ANY form of donation, whether it be monetary, a bag of grain, a bag of cat food, and bag of shavings, is very much appreciated and helpful. Monetary donations can be made at the GoFundMe page. Leave a comment with your donation so we know how to direct your donation. Write “For Remmy” for the horse who needs surgery, “For Tank” for our sick barn cat, or just leave any sort of comment saying where you’d like funds to go towards. Most importantly, SHARE this with everyone you know. The more people that know about what is happening to these horses and about what we are doing to save as many as we can, the better.
