School Safety Measures Debated In Montville: Report

Currently, an unarmed, retired state police trooper has been on campus in a security capacity in Montville since 2013.

MONTVILLE, CT — The possibility of adding unarmed security guards in Montville public schools is among the safety measures district and town officials are in the midst of debating, reports The Day.

How to keep students safe, in light of recent school shootings and other violent incidents throughout the country, is the focus of the discussion. Currently, an unarmed, retired state police trooper has been on campus in a security capacity in Montville, an initiative that began in 2013.

Adding a police department school resource officer would be difficult because the Montville department currently does not have enough personnel to deploy a full-time officer in such a role, Montville Police Lt. Leonard Bunnell told the publication.
