Uncasville Woman Contracts Legionnaires On Vacation
An Uncasville woman was unable to talk and breathe after returning home from vacation with legionnaires.

UNCASVILLE, CT - A Connecticut woman was left physically unable to talk and breathe after returning home from vacation with legionnaires, Eyewitness News 3 reported. Shirley Horan of Uncasville felt ill shortly after coming home from a dream vacation to the Caribbean.
Horan spent 11 days in the intensive care unit of Backus Hospital after returning home from vacation near the end of April, according to Eyewitness News 3. Medical officials told Horan legionnaires is a bacterium that grows in complex heating and cooling systems that involve water. (To sign up for Montville breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Officials also said legionnaires is not transmitted person to person, and was most likely picked up from an AC unit or pool/jacuzzi at the couple's hotel, the New London Day reported. The state and the CDC have recorded the case, and Horan is looking in to her legal options.
