In my first year as President of the Montville Youth Football League, I have been blessed with knowing one of the greatest group of kids I have ever been around.
Notice that I didn't say athletes, but kids. That is not to take away from the talent that we witnessed this year, as we had our fair share of Sportscenter moments. I was, and still am, amazed at the determination and drive that these kids displayed on a daily basis.
They have inspired me. I have seen volunteers, Board members, coaches and parents ready to throw the towel in this year and even with all the trials and tribulations that we as a League experienced, our kids never gave up. So with this experience, I also vow to put everything I have into bringing our League back to prominence and providing a positive and enriched program that our kids deserve.
What will it take? Improved communication throughout the organization? Properly trained coaches? Registration fees in line with other programs?
Yes, yes and yes.
I will be proposing to the Board in 2014 to form a committee consisting of Board members, coaches and parents to help improve communication and streamline the information that needs to be presented.
In the last week, I have teamed up with USA Football, a national non-profit organization dedicated to youth football that works closely with the NFL. Through USA Football, we will be able to provide online and personal training to all members of the League and I will propose implementing required coach training for any volunteer that is looking to coach.
And lastly, I understand the hardships that many families are experiencing and for those of you who have your children involved in sports, the numbers add up quickly. I am going to propose restructuring our registration fees so they will be competitive with other programs and affordable for those families that register more than one child.
I am optimistic that 2014 is going to be a great year for the MYFL because that is what our kids deserve.
