Montville hears a unit-based trash pricing pitch, posts a 99-year PTA Lane lease before a hearing and introduces its planning director.
MONTVILLE, CT — A presentation on unit-based trash pricing, a proposed 99-year lease of town land on PTA Lane and the public debut of Montville's planning director are on the town's calendar this week.
Here are five things to know about life around Montville this week:
1. Conservation Commission Hears Unit-Based Trash Pricing Pitch
When: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6 p.m.
Where: Room 203, Town Hall, 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville
What to know: The Conservation Commission's agenda opens with a presentation from Waste Zero on a "Unit Based Pricing Program." Members will also get updates on the conservation center, the garden club and feedback from the town's Plan of Conservation and Development and housing advisory workshop, and they'll elect officers. The next night, Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the mayor's conference room, the town's Ad-Hoc Sustainable Materials Management Committee will consider recommendations from Phase 1 of the Sustainable Materials Management Round 2 grant program and whether to move on to Phase 2. Written comments for the Conservation Commission must be emailed to the town clerk at townclerk@montville-ct.org at least one working day ahead.

2. Town Posts Proposed 99-Year Lease Of PTA Lane Land
When: Documents available now; public hearing Tuesday, Oct. 13, 6 p.m.
Where: Council Chambers, Town Hall, 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville
What to know: An ordinance introduced at a Sept. 28 special Town Council meeting would authorize the mayor to lease about 1.81 acres of town-owned land known as PTA Lane to Montville 1 LLC for 99 years. According to the draft ground lease, the company owns 87 PTA Lane and is acquiring or may acquire 15 Golden Road. The full ordinance, the proposed lease and a Land Use Department review are posted on the town website and are available at the town clerk's office. The council's public hearing is Oct. 13.

3. ZBA Meets Planning Director; Goats Application Received
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6 p.m.
Where: Council Chambers, Town Hall, 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville
What to know: Planning Director Dennis Goderre will be introduced to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He'll report on the town's Revive & Renew effort for Routes 163 and 32, the zoning regulations and the update of the Plan of Conservation and Development, according to the agenda. The board will receive a new application to keep goats as therapeutic animals, not for farming, at 45 Forsyth Road in Oakdale. A public hearing must be scheduled within 65 days. The board also plans an executive session on a pending court appeal of an earlier ZBA decision.

4. Commission On Aging Takes Up Senior Living
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m.
Where: Library, Montville Senior Center, 12 Maple Ave., Uncasville
What to know: The Commission on Aging will continue discussing elderly and senior living and the commission's rules and procedures, according to its agenda. Members will hear reports from the senior center director, the senior resident liaison, the police and Town Council liaisons, and the mayor. A guest speaker is also on the agenda. The meeting includes two periods for public remarks.

5. Holiday Parade Applications Now Open
When: Applications due by Dec. 3; parade Sunday, Dec. 6, 5 p.m.
Where: Parks & Recreation Department, Town Hall, 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville
What to know: Groups and individuals who want to march or enter a float in Montville's annual holiday parade can apply now through Parks & Recreation. The parade starts at 5 p.m. at the Church and Allen funeral home on Route 32 and heads north to Town Hall for the tree lighting and parade awards. Floats and equipment must be at the funeral home by 4 p.m. Parks & Recreation provides the only Santa float. Applications go to Parks & Recreation at Town Hall, or call 860-848-6780.
