2 Hit By Pickup Just Moments After Initial Crash In Naugatuck

The identity of a man killed in a crash Thursday has been released by state police. A woman was also struck in the accident.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A man is dead and a woman suffered injuries after a pickup truck hit them in Naugatuck on Thursday, according to state police.

The man and woman were outside their Mercedes-Benz at 1:55 p.m. on the right shoulder near the Route 8 exit 26 off-ramp. They had been involved in an unrelated accident.

A Ford F450 truck was driving in the left lane approaching the scene of the crash.

The pickup truck driver lost control and "entered into a rotation," state police said.

The pickup truck hit the concrete traffic barrier in the median, then struck both pedestrians and their Mercedes.

Jimmy Bedard, 45, of Wolcott, was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The second pedestrian, a 46-year-old Shelton woman, was taken to Waterbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident shut down the highway and resulted in significant traffic delays in the areas of Bridge Street, Union City, Prospect Street, and North Church Street on Thursday afternoon.
